As a keen runner, I run approximately 25 miles weekly and have run both marathons and half-marathons.
I decided four or five years ago to book myself in for a sports massage at Natural Balance. I was unsure what to expect, but I knew my muscles needed a helping hand to ease those tricky knots that somehow get ‘tucked’ away. I met Lisa and started with bi-monthly appointments, usually in the evenings after work.
Once I get to my appointment and get settled in the waiting room, I start to relax & wind down. The comfortable seats and peaceful atmosphere set the appointment’s tone! During each massage, it’s a great space to drift off in my own bubble, a great stress buster that allows me to be in the present rather than thinking about problems or dwelling on tasks.
Over the years, Lisa has taken the time to identify what works for me, allowing time for a decent catch-up and consultation. During my 60-minute massage, she relieves my aches and pains, finding and soothing those sneaky tender points.
All the running can take its toll on my back & legs, so these massages are an absolute must! Even when I’m feeling fine physically, my regular contact with Lisa means that I can keep on top of my training and the sessions are a well-needed tonic.
More recently, I’ve had a long-term hamstring and glute injury due to over-training. With the support of Lisa, I’m tackling this head-on, and we are making progress little by little! This has meant more frequent appointments, and Lisa has been more than helpful in researching the issue and working her magic! It’s all a working progress, and overall, I’m thankful – it’s been a big learning curve.
The massages are all part & parcel of my physical, mental and spiritual MOT. Fingers crossed for Brighton Half and full marathons in 2023!
