Myofascial Release cont'd

Advanced Body work to relieve pain and restore function and mobility

What is Fascia?

Fascia is connective tissue that permeates the body like a spiders web surrounding  every tissue, bone, veins, muscles right down to cellular level. When Fascia becomes “stuck” or tight it exerts pressure up to 2000lbs per square inch on surrounding tissues and organs, and joints.  No wonder it hurts!

When the body suffers injury, surgery, emotional trauma repeated strain or overload, the fascia hardens and builds to protect itself, thus inhibiting movement and function. A good example is scar tissue. We all can see how the skin around a scar is less flexible or stretchy. Fascial restrictions can cover large areas within the body and have that same inflexible quality that scar tissue has.

Because fascia is entirely continuous throughout the body, a restriction in one part will affect every other part. Consequently, release during treatment affects the entire body and effects permanent postural improvement.

How does it work?

Fascia consists of layers of connective tissue that should glide against each other. Pain occurs when these layers become hardened and dehydrated and get “stuck” together.

The techniques used are designed to help separate these layers to allow the flow of nutrients, water, and oxygen, bio-energy to restore health and flexibility to the area. Working with the body in this way has been likened to peeling back the layers of an onion.

As superficial restrictions are found and released the therapist is guided to deeper layers of restriction within the body.. As the layers begin to peel back the client will feel an uplifting feeling of freedom and movement, balance, and increased energy within themselves.

Why should I choose this over Deep tissue or sports massage?

Incorporated into your treatment are techniques from both these treatments but in combination with Myofascial release they become even more effective. Also, the treatment works faster at getting to the root cause of your symptoms so you will not need so many treatments to move you out of pain. This treatment is highly sophisticated and your therapist will have devoted many years to learning to feel the subtle changes in tissues that indicate restriction and release.

Would it be good for me?

Everyone can benefit from this treatment .If you suffer with any pain be it acute or chronic, unexplained pain or complex pain as a result of long term stress, emotional or physical trauma, sporting injuries or RSI . Even very long term pain problems can be addressed. Myofascial release can get to the source of your discomfort and provide relief from symptoms faster than conventional bodywork. There is usually a significant improvement in symptoms and general feeling of well being after one session.

What do Myofascial restrictions feel like?

Characteristics of facial restriction are a deep dull heavy aching, numbness, tingling, burning, tightness, sharp and shooting pain, detachment of the affected body part, coldness.

Release of these is likened to “having armour removed”, a weight lifted, and a flow of energy and warmth in previously tight restricted muscles. These restrictions or areas of hard tissue do not show up in MRI scans or an orthodox medical test which is why some pain goes unexplained by the medical profession.
